A conference organized by Young leaders for Young leaders
2nd Canadian IWA Young Water Professionals Conference
An in-person event gathering passionate and enthusiastic young water professionals (under age 35) from across Canada.
Hosted by and for young professionals and students, this conference will also help YWPs build skills and their professional network via technical sessions, poster competitions, workshops & networking sessions.
Technical Sessions
Authors will present their research, project or industry’s recent findings during the technical sessions through 15 minutes of oral presentation followed by 5 minutes for Q & A. The presentation can be delivered in English, Spanish & French languages.
Poster Competition
Authors will present their posters in a dedicated space at the conference venue. A poster session is going to be included to the conference program. Poster authors will also have the opportunity to compete in a 3-minute presentation on their work.
Technical Workshops
YWPs and Water experts are welcome to submit abstracts for workshops. Workshops can be a maximum length of 1 hour and must have an interactive component. Workshop topics should follow the general theme of the conference. Abstracts can be submitted in English, Spanish & French.
Submitting Your Abstract
Abstract Submission
Please submit your abstract through our online submission portal. The submission deadline has been extended to February 15, 2023.
Abstract Submission Limit
An author can only submit one abstract for Oral and one for a Poster presentation. Co-authors must present additional papers.
Abstract Template & Criteria
Please limit the length of your abstract to two pages, including tables and figures following this format (see link below).
Final Presentation Selection
The acceptance decision is based on a peer review process with scoring and commentary from our professional Canadian reviewers.
Publications
Selected papers will be peer-reviewed for publication in IWA Publishing’s Water Science and Technology or Water Practice and Technology journals. Specifications for the formatting of papers are available on the IWA Publishing website.
Awards
All conference presenters identified as YWPs (aged 18-35) will be considered for the following 4 awards.
- Best Presentation – Judges Choice
- Best Presentation – Audience Choice
- Best Poster – Judges Choice
- Outstanding Volunteer – Organizing Committee’s Choice
YWP Canada Award
The YWP Canada award will be given to an individual YWP with outstanding contributions to the water sector. This awardee will be selected based on leadership, performance, contribution, vision and accomplishments throughout their career in the water sector. Selection will be made by a judging committee considering the score and comments. YWPs can be self-nominated or nominated by others.
