Who should attend this conference?
- Young professionals, students, researchers, and early-career professionals in water and wastewater, as well as industry representatives, academics, and policymakers under the age of 35.
Where and when will the conference take place?
- The in-person conference will be taking place at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Alberta from June 18-20, 2025.
How do I register for the conference?
- You can register through the conference website. The early registration will open on February 10th. Registration fees can be found here:
Are there scholarships such as travel grants or fee waivers available?
- No, there are no available scholarships/fee waivers. To accommodate participants from different countries, we have adjusted our registration fees, ensuring that those from low-income countries pay less than those from high-income countries
How can I submit an abstract for the conference? Can I submit multiple abstracts?

What are the key dates for abstract submission, review, and acceptance?
- The deadline for abstract submission is January 31st, 2025. The abstract acceptance will be sent starting from March 15th, 2025.
What topics will be covered at the conference?
- The conference covers various research themes, including urban water management, wastewater systems, basins and water resources, information and communication technologies, water and health, industrial water and wastewater, water governance and regulations, resource recovery and reuse, innovation, digitization in the water industry, the water-energy nexus, and interdisciplinary water research.
How do I get an invitation letter for a Visa?
- invitation letters for Visa purposes will only be issued to presenters. If you have submitted an abstract and are awaiting a decision, we appreciate your patience. We will contact you as soon as a final decision has been made.
Will the conference committee provide accommodation?
- The conference committee will reserve some rooms at a discounted rate at the conference venue (limited rooms). We will send emails for the booking discount info to our registered guests and participants.
I just want to attend the conference, but not presenting. Can I come to Canada to join?
- Yes. We will be happy to have you with us at the conference. However, please note that we’ll send an invitation letter to only the presenters for visa purposes. So, if you are an international participant outside of Canada, you’ll need to arrange for a Canadian Visa to enter Canada. We are unable to help you with Visa process information.
Do I need to have a paper to present at the IWA YWP conference?
- You do not need paper to present at the conference. The conference presentation decision will be based on your submitted abstract. Upon abstract acceptance, the presenter/authors will be invited to submit a full paper. This submission is highly encouraged but not mandatory for the conference presentation.
Is the venue accessible for individuals with disabilities?

What is the format of the conference (in-person, hybrid, or virtual)?
- The conference will be held in person at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Alberta, from June 18-20, 2025. However, the hackathon competition will be offered in a hybrid format, allowing both in-person and virtual participation.
